Asthma

Asthma is a leading, chronic illness among children and youth in the United States and a leading cause of school absenteeism. With your help, OISD we can safely manage your child's asthma at school.

If your child requires medication at school, please notify the school nurse immediately. It is required that new paperwork be completed each school year. All medication must be in it's original container with the original and up-to-date label.

Your child is permitted to self-carry and administer his/her own asthma medication only if the physician has completed and signed his/her asthma action plan and notes that your child is safe to do so. If the physician does not sign off, your child's medication is to be kept in the nurse's office. Again, it is our goal, at OISD, to keep your child safe and provide the best care possible.
